Young Tree Champions (YTC)
At Saint Alban's, we successfully applied to become Young Tree Champions (YTC). Run by The Tree Council, the project encourages us all to be a #ForceForNature.
Biodiversity and the state of nature are hugely important to us, together with the health and wellbeing of people. Our Nature Needs Us Now project led to us being granted 'Beacon Status' in July 2021. As part of our project we made a biodiversity trail in the grounds.
Our Beacon School application has been approved and we have received a trail camera. Today (19.5.22) we discovered what we think might be a red tailed bumblebee nest. So we set up the trail camera and you can see the footage below.

There are currently 14 'Beacons' in the UK and we are very proud, to be the first school in England, to be recognised as an 'Outstanding Beacon School'.

We are developing links with Havant Tree Wardens, who ran a tree seed workshop, with Year 5, in October.
