Extra Curricular Activities
Clubs
We offer a wide variety of activities which take place before school, during the lunch break or after school. For example, clubs that have been offered include Spanish, Band, Football, Netball, Hockey, Gardening, ICT, Athletics, Dance and Drama. After school clubs are typically offered for pupils from Year 1 to Year 6.
Some of our clubs are staff-led, changing each term so that there is a greater variety of experience on offer. A club letter is sent to parents each term detailing the choice of clubs available and details of how to request a place. Staff-led clubs typically run 3 weeks before and after each half term. Some of our clubs are led and managed by external providers. Contact details will be provided to parents via email and parents who wish their child to attend these clubs contact the provider directly.
Music
Music plays an important part at St Alban's School. The school employs music teachers through the Hampshire Music Service to teach instruments such as guitar, piano, brass, woodwind and violin. In line with guidance from Hampshire Music Service, lessons are offered to children in KS2 (Years 3 to 6). Sessions usually last 20 minutes and are for small groups of children. Parents contribute towards the cost of this extra-curricular tuition which is highly subsidised by the school. This is a cost-effective way to enable children to learn a musical instrument and parents will receive information towards the end of Year 2 regarding available lessons and how to request these.
Children in Year 4 take part in the ‘Listen2Me’ project which gives them the opportunity to learn three different instruments (one per term). This initiative is funded by the school. The school has weekly Singing Praise worships which are led by a trained singer.
