Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is an amount of money the government allocates to each school to support all pupils to reach their potential. It is aimed at pupils who qualify for free school meals (FSM) or have had free school meals within the last 6 years (known as Ever 6 FSM). The Government believes that Pupil Premium, which is in addition to the main school funding, is the best way to address the current inequalities by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who most need it and are vulnerable to the risk of underachievement.

It is for each school to decide how this money should be spent, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individuals attending their school. It is used to support, in a variety of different ways, those pupils who are in receipt of the funding.

St Alban's CE (Aided)  Primary School is committed to enabling all children to gain an excellent education. We recognise that children from disadvantaged backgrounds can face particular challenges and welcome the Pupil Premium as an important way to support them. Our approach ensures that all aspects of the school support children from disadvantaged backgrounds, from high quality first teaching, to providing targeted support when it is needed.

We also recognise that to enable pupils to flourish academically, socially, spiritually and morally, wider skills, talents and experiences, participating in clubs and school visits and journeys all play an important role and should be accessible to all. We use some Pupil Premium money to pay for and subsidise these activities for those who would not otherwise be able to afford them.

Please see below for our Pupil Premium Strategy.
