Gardening
Gardening with wildlife in mind has been a passion of ours for many years. We are blessed with beautiful grounds and are always looking for people to join our gardening team. We are fortunate to be supported by members of Havant Horticultural Society and by other gardening volunteers but you can do plenty to help us without being an expert. Contact us if you would like to know more.
Food and Shelter
A huge thank you to the Hopkins family for the kind donation of wildlife friendly items for our school. Lucky birds, bees and hogs!
Dead Hedge Construction
Since creating beetle buckets in the grounds, last year, Year 5 now wish to create a dead hedge. We hope to incorporate a hedgehog home into this structure. Dead hedges provide habitat for beetles and many other species.
We have been fortunate to have stakes donated by ‘Hampshire Chestnut’ and advice and support from Martin Hampton, a local wildlife gardener and conservationist. These images show the start of construction.
The hedge forms part of our ‘Nature Needs Us Now’ project with ‘The Tree Council’.
Volunteer Power
A huge thank you to Positive Pathways, Friends of The Hermitage and our garden volunteers for spending a morning in the pond area, over half term. Pathways were cleared and undergrowth was cut back. The children were very happy to be able to trot along the new paths!
