Safeguarding for Children

Safeguarding (sometimes known as Child Protection) is all about keeping children safe from any type of harm.

Who can I speak to at school?

Children at St Alban's can speak to any member of school staff if they are concerned about themselves or someone else, but Mrs Goldsworthy is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. Mrs Clarke, Miss Brooks and Mrs Welton are Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads.

A 'Designated Safeguarding Lead' or DSL, is someone who is responsible for safeguarding pupils, parents, and staff at school.

Who else can I speak to?

If you want to ask an adult for help, make sure it's someone you trust and feel safe with. They might have helped you with something before.

They could be a:

  • parent or carer
  • teacher
  • aunt, uncle, grandparent or different family member
  • friend's parent
  • school nurse or counsellor
  • religious leader or sports coach

It can feel scary to tell someone what's happening, but you have the right to feel safe and happy. You do not have to go through this alone – try talking to an adult you feel safe with. Talking can make you feel better, and an adult might be able to help. You can talk to them about what you would like to happen next.
